What is Ryogoku?

Soba ramen

Ryogoku is best known for its original soba ramen. It sounds odd, but it is Chinese-style ramen noodles in soba broth, made with domestic stewing hens, gentle and deep in the way of a soba shop. You can have it alone or in a set with a mini rice bowl or mini soba, so it is easy to order on a first visit.

Soba and rice bowls

The handmade soba menu sticks to the classics: tempura zaru, mori, zaru and grated radish. Nothing fancy, but just the right size and flavor for a road-trip lunch. There are also rice bowls such as tempura and pork bowls if you are hungry.

When to go

It fits easily into lunch before or after Lake Mashu, and it is close to Roadside Station Mashu Onsen. It is usually less crowded than the big tourist restaurants, so timing is easier to plan.
